Every child in Years 2 - 6 play Badminton as part of their PE lessons.  A strategic long term plan allows each child to make progress throughout the years and perhaps compete against other schools in Years 5 and 6.  In recent years, we have entered the National IAPS Badminton Tournament, winning the plate one year and being knocked out by the eventual winners the following year.  The House Badminton competition is eagerly fought for in school, allowing all the children to play the sport competitively whilst maintaining the enjoyment factor.

An impressive day out for Stanley and Brynley at the IAPS National Badminton Finals

Stanley and Brynley performed exceptionally well at the IAPS Badminton Finals at Great Walstead.
In their first tournament outing together they started exceptionally well, winning a nail biting encounter against Hereford Cathedral 15-14.
Further wins against Edge Grove and Moulsford Prep meant that they finished 4th in their group. This gave them a tricky draw in the main quarter finals and they lost out 21-8 to the eventual tournament winners from St Martin’s. It was an impressive day which both boys should be proud of.

IAPS Badminton Competition

Amy and Thomas represented Royal Russell at the IAPS Badminton competition last Saturday. In the group stages they managed three brilliant wins against Great Walstead, Bedford Prep and Downsend. They finished third in their group and headed through to the Cup competition. They came up against a very strong pair from Magdalen Junior School who won 21-10, leaving Amy and Thomas as IAPS Quarter Finalists. This represents a very good achievement for them and for Royal Russell.
