At Royal Russell, we believe in the importance of a healthy, nutritious and balanced diet for all our pupils.

Studies have shown that a good diet improves children's concentration, mood and academic performance.  Encouraging healthy eating habits within school teaches children how to make positive food choices, which they will continue throughout their lives.

Pupils have plenty of time to choose their lunch and eat in an enjoyable and relaxed manner.  Staff are on hand to assist with cutting food, however much importance is placed on good table manners and the correct use of their cutlery.

Boarding at Royal Russell

The Royal Russell Department provides breakfast, lunch and tea for our boarding community, seven days a week.  Our Boarders eat in our spacious Dining Hall, along with our Day pupils.

Our Boarders also have the opportunity to prepare snacks in their Boarding House kitchen.

Our Menus

We understand that some children can be fussy eaters, so we provide a choice of meals and display our food so that it is visually appetising.

95% of all food eaten at Royal Russell School is cooked from scratch, from fresh raw ingredients, on the premises every day – even the bread is freshly baked daily!

All our raw meat is sourced locally from UK only suppliers who adhere to UK guidelines on animal welfare and food production.  All meat purchased is fully traceable to its origin.  With the exception of occasional sausages and beef burgers, our children are not served any processed food.

pupils can choose from a full range of hot food served every day.  Our menus are a combination of good old fashioned dishes such as lamb shepherds pie and newer foreign inspired dishes such as jerk chicken with rice and peas, or chicken and noodles.

Each day there is a choice including:

  • Meat and non-meat dishes
  • Pasta with a choice of sauces
  • Jacket potatoes with a choice of fillings
  • A protein bar
  • Fresh vegetables are served and a salad bar offers an extensive range of fresh salads, coleslaw and cheese.
  • Whole and cut fresh fruit is served alongside dessert every day as well as home produced, naturally flavoured yoghurt.

All food items can be mixed and matched, and we always encourage children to try a little of something new every day.

Special Dietary Needs

We are able to support a wide range of dietary requirements, including intolerance and allergies, as well as vegan preferences.

Our Catering Manager is always pleased to meet with parents to discuss how we can accommodate individual needs.
