U11 IAPS Netball Tournament

The IAPS team travelled to East Grinstead on Monday morning to compete against 38 schools in the region. Our group consisted of 10 schools in which the top 3 would then proceed through to the afternoon. No Pressure then! Royal Russell had an amazing run, playing incredibly well, to win their first 7 matches! Dulwich came out strong and saw us 2-0 down at half time however the girls fought hard to finish with a draw. A narrow loss in the last game resulted in the girls finishing 3rd in the group and into the knockouts. A tough match against St George’s was on the cards but the score remained equal until the last 3 minutes of the match where they pulled away from us. Royal Russell were knocked out by the eventual winners but the team held their heads high finishing joint 9th out of 38 schools! Some truly great netball performances by the whole team who we are very proud of!

U11 Road to the Copperbox

The U11 Netball team travelled to Surrey Sports Park to compete for a place in the finals taking place at the Copper Box Arena. There was great excitement at having our own changing room for the day! The morning consisted of the pool matches; the team started off well against the previous tournament champions Bishopsgate, but unfortunately allowed them to pull away in the second half. The team then lost their next match to a strong Marist side and then won a match against Dedworth, before losing narrowly to Danes Hill Prep.

With a win and three defeats, Royal Russell were entered in to the Bowl Tournament. A rematch against Dedworth gained the Royal Russell team another (better) win, before winning their final match of the day against Velmead. The girls finished the afternoon as BOWL WINNERS!

The team received their signed Surrey Storm certificates along with their Bowl Award frame from two of the players who also selected Zeena as the award for ‘Spirit of Netball’. Islay won ‘Player’s Player’ while Millie, Jasmine and Ella also received Player of the match during their time on court!

Year 5 and 6 pre-season Netball

The girls were treated to an excellent session with Lorraine Kowalewska, a former Surrey Storm player who currently coaches some of the Junior players!

U11s Versatility Tournament

the U11’s played well in a variety of positions at the Sutton versatility tournament. With some great play in both defence and attack the girls won 3 matches and drew another to finish 4th.

Bronze Medal at Croydon Schools Final

After winning the Croydon School’s Tournament Qualifier a couple of weeks ago, the U11 girls worked hard to integrate two new players in preparation for the finals.

Six minute matches one way meant that every pass counted and the pressure was on to score goals as quickly as possible!

The first match against Ridgeway School was very close with goals being scored by both teams. With a minute to go, it was 3-3 and unluckily Ridgeway scored to make it 3-4. The team then played some fantastic netball and 100% effort was demonstrated by every player!

This payed off as they convincing won their next 4 matches against Cumnor House, Atwood, Greenvale and Elmwood. The girl’s then fought so hard in their last game against a very strong Croydon High team who unfortunately pulled away and beat us 3-1.

Royal Russell finished 3rd overall in Croydon, receiving bronze medals. Well done!

London Live Netball Trip

A group of junior and senior school pupils travelled to the Copper Box Arena to watch Surrey Storm take on Hertfordshire Mavericks. Everybody was super excited to  support our very own Miss Williams and the Surrey Storm team.

The atmosphere in the arena was electric with crowd chants and fitting music being blasted after each goal! Pupils were able to recognise aspects of their own warm ups and set plays on court and were wowed by the speed and the intensity of the game Surrey Storm put in an amazing  performance and won the match 67-45.

Heading down to the court afterwards and getting selfies, pictures and the player’s signatures was a definite highlight!

Well done Miss Williams!

U11 IAPS Netball Tournament

The U11 netball team travelled to Hurst school for a day of matches.

We got off to a bit of a slow start, but with some great effort and persistence, the girls finished on a high with a win!

U8 Netball Tournament at Lingfield Notre Dame

A lovely sunny morning for the U8 netball team who played some amazing netball!

The girls won their match against Oakfield 5-0, then played a very strong Reigate St Mary’s team where the score was equal until the last minute as Reigate then pulled ahead and beat us 6-4.

We then went on to win against Lingfield 6-0! We came 2nd overall which meant the girls received their 3rd medal in a week!

Very happy U8 team and a very proud coach!

U11 Croydon Schools Netball Qualifier Tournament

The U11s built on their skills from the IAPS tournament and played some excellent Netball to win all 6 matches at the qualifying Croydon Schools tournament. Some excellent displays of slick passing, solid defending and great shooting ensured our place in the final. Well done.

Surrey Schools Netball Tournament

The U11s travelled to Guildford for this top level Netball Tournament, it was key practise for the IAPS event. The girls played some excellent netball and know what they need to do to succeed at IAPS. We got off to a great start beating St Teresa’s 2-1 in a closely fought match, the girls learnt a lot and we needed to up our game against The Study. We battled hard and worked well as a team with some end to end court action, the final score was 3-5 to them. Next up were St Ives, the girls worked really hard to keep possession of the netball, this paid off with a 3-2 win! Cranleigh proved a tough opposition and despite some excellent play they won 3-0. Streatham and Clapham gave us a good match with great driving from Cassie and defence in the circle from Rosie we won 2-1. Finally we played Micklefield and despite end to end play we made a few too many mistakes and lost 2-0. All in all a good day and Rosie and Cassie were awarded most valuable players of the tournament - congratulations girls.
